Number of days fished last year: 150-200
Favorite fishing location: I always enjoy the local water but, my favorite places to fish are back in the woods on small streams chasing wild fish on big dries. I also love good streamer water where you can hunt the mighty Brown Trout.
Favorite fly and why: I think it changes weekly, right? If I had to pick it would probably be a good rockworm. Whether its highwater or low it never fails to rock a solid fish and, you can usually get away with a #14-16 that always helps with a strong jaw. Although I would still need a solid sculpin pattern for those cutbanks.
What Willy J products do you wear: The “dry-namics” are my favorite wader out there, a full year and no leaks that’s a good wader. On a day trip I pack all my gear into the “ Exodus ” and go for it. The pack rides like a dream, and holds a full trip of goods plus a camera. The flask is always fun but, the mitten clamps and nippers are a must.
What one item would you never head to the river without: a good attitude.
Favorite music to take along: Drive by Truckers on the way there and Hank on the way back. Something along those lines or maybe some old school Metallica.
Your most memorable day fishing: So many come to mind a lot are a blur but, this last summer I had a great day on the water with my wife. We were chasing some small healthy Cutties with hoppers and, she dropped the perfect cast right into this grassy bank. Instantly a big 18” Brown wacked the hopper and went leaping in the air several times. A big fish for the water it sure topped an epic day of good company and hard hitting Cutties. That’s the one that sticks out in the memory today.
Facts (fishing or non-fishing): Beer is Gooooood
Catch you're most proud of: A few years ago I chased this bruiser of a brown for a good 3 months thru this 4 mile stretch of water. We’d get a good look at each other now and then but it never worked out. Early fall the weather was perfect and a hand tied fly of mine tricked this brute out for playtime. He destroyed a 6” sculpin in olive and fought to the very end breaking the net. This was a great ending to a long summer of waiting.
Other hobbies: I am a singer & songwriter and love play’n in a band, photography, and fly tying. I also love to hunt my patterdale terrier for fox, racooon, and other nasties. I also dig growing a big garden.
