ANDREW CUMMINGS

Name: Capt. R. Andrew Cummings

Website: www.outercapewaterman.com

Number of days fished last year: Depends on my mood....  I may say, “too many” or I may say, “not nearly enough”.

Favorite fishing location: Location Z, in a pinch Location Y will do.

Favorite fly and why: The “Meat Fly”, everything eats it - it’ll save the day.

What Willy J products do you use:  Mag series Surge on the flats, Conduit on the boat, Terrestrial for overseas and the packable WJ Rain Jacket everyday.

What one item would you never head to the river without: My gum, a bandana and a rod with a reel and line is always good.  My rain jacket.  I guess that’s four items....

Favorite music to take along: As a rule nothing with over two (maybe three) chords. Basically: Garage, Punk and real Rock-a-Billy.

Your most memorable day fishing: Again, depends on my mood when asked.  I guess all good days on the water are memorable, same goes for the REALLY BAD ones - I learn something everyday on the water, the day I don’t learn something - I’ll hang it up (I don’t see that happening).

A few days of note:

Guiding to my first bluefin landed on fly 19 miles off-shore in a 17 foot flats skiff.

Landing my 9th IGFA (guided) World Record fly-caught striped bass in the midst of aggressive feeding grey seals.

An afternoon on a  random atoll in the middle of nowhere (near the equator), on the front-side of a vicious squall cell - literally, a bonefish every cast (even with the hook cut at the shank), of course - I was alone, which makes it all that much better.

Swacking sunnies with some incredibly talented fly anglers on urban waters surrounding Boston in the 80s, which forged life-long friendships and led me on my twisted path.

Facts (fishing or non-fishing): I’ll take an East wind any day over a high pressure North West.  You’ve got to “feed” fish to catch them.  Appreciate everything, all the time.  Talkers are no good doers.

Catch you're most proud of: My guided World Records and every fish that I’ve had to work for.

Other hobbies:  Puttering around the gardens.  Photography, reading.  I Black bass fish a lot.
